Singapore is located along the equator in the heart of Southeast Asia with the country’s Standard Time being 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+8). Singapore’s year-round tropical climate is characterised by uniform temperature, high humidity and abundant rainfall.

Singapore enjoys racial harmony and social cohesion with a multi-ethnic population of about 5.6 million comprising 74% Chinese, 13% Malays, 9% Indians and 4% Eurasians and other ethnic groups. It is also home to a sizeable expatriate community, which constitutes one-fifth of the total population.

English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil are the four official languages spoken in Singapore, with English being the most commonly used language by business corporations, government institutions and locals. Getting around Singapore

Singapore’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system is one of the fastest ways to zip around the city. The extensive rail network means that most of Singapore’s key attractions are within walking distance from an MRT station. Alternatively, hail a taxi by the roadside or queue for one at a taxi stand which is found at most shopping malls, hotels and tourist attractions. Taxis here are metered, but there may be surcharges depending on when, where and which company’s taxi you board.
